1. Dimensions:	Vigil Antislip Metal Decks are measured in two dimensions; length ways (A) and width (B).
A:	Length of Metal Deck: There are two standard lengths; 600mm and 200mm. When laid, each sheet of Metal Deck can be spaced up to 150mm from the next sheet because on a straight walkway it is only necessary for personnel to achieve either heel or toe contact with Vigil Antislip to avoid accidents. By using 200mm sheets, there is less antislip required per square metre, however, there are more fasteners required so installation costs will be greater than if 600mm sheets were being installed.
B:	Width of Metal Deck: As with Stair Nosings, Metal Deck need not cover the whole width of the walkway or ramp. Personnel tend to walk within 100mm from the edges of walkways so it is recommended that Metal Deck 150mm - 300mm narrower than the overall walkway be ordered, ie. if ordering Metal Deck for a 800mm wide walkway, 600mm wide Metal Deck will provide ample protection. If there is omni-directional traffic, it is suggested that the Metal Deck is butted up against each other, to avoid slips between spaced sheets The situation is similar with landings where there is turning traffic.

	Standard Dimensions: A: 200mm (7.9"), 600mm (23.6") B: 450mm (17.7"), 600mm (23.6"), 750mm (29.5"), 900mm (35.4"), 1200mm (47.2")
2. Grade:	Three standard grades exist in the range of Vigil Antislip Metal Deck; Commercial, Industrial and Offshore. Commercial grade is normally used in areas where heavy spillage or soilage does not exist. Industrial grade is used in most external areas where there may be spillage and/or soilage of lubricants. Offshore grade is used in areas where there is a high build up of grease or oil. This surface is the most severe and is not affected by very heavy spillage and soilage of chemicals or lubricants.
3. Colour:	The color of Metal Deck is not as important as for Stair Nosings or Ladder Rung Covers. Safety Yellow is often used to highlight the safe area, however this often becomes very dirty from spillage and soilage. Because of this, many companies are turning to our Ochre color because it tends to hide the contamination. Several offshore companies are now purchasing Deck Mark which is Metal Deck with permanent writing and/or symbols on the surface. Apart from eliminating the chance of slips on escape route walkways during an emergency, Deck Mark points personnel to the nearest escape path. This works very well because when running, personnel are watching their footing, not looking above eye level for signs.
4. Foundation:	1.2mm Colorbond steel is normally used as the foundation for Vigil Antislip Metal Decks. This patented product offers excellent resistance to corrosion under most circumstances. If Metal Decks are to be used in splash zones, we recommend 1.2mm marine grade stainless be used as a foundation. Electrolysis must be considered though if it is being installed on galvanised steel.
5. Installation:	If Vigil Antislip is to be installed over steel grating, universal saddle assemblies are used. These fit all sizes of grating and consist of a galvanised saddle, galvanised pan head metal thread and a nickel coated Nyloc locking nut. Stainless steel saddle assemblies are also available for splash zones. The stainless steel saddle itself is threaded to facilitate installation and reduce the risk of dropping fasteners through the grating. Holes must first be drilled through the Metal Deck from the back to the surface, between grating load bars and approximately 50mm in from each side. Installation over chequerplate is more straight forward and does not require predrilling. Series 500 wafer head Tek screws are used and will drill through the Metal Deck and up to 10mm chequerplate before self tapping and fastening.
6. No. of Fasteners:	The following Metal Deck sheet require four fasteners per piece. 200mm x 450mm 200mm x 600mm 200mm x 750mm 600mm x 600mm 600mm x 600mm 600mm x 750mm The following Metal Deck sheets require six fasteners per piece. 200mm x 900mm 200mm x 1200mm 600mm x 900mm 600mm x 1200mm
7. Cleaning:	Because of the extreme hardness and chemical resistance of Vigil Antislip, cleaning can be effected with high pressure steam or water, degreasers, detergents or solvents. Stubborn soilage can be removed with a stiff deck broom. If solvents have been used, hose off with water at your earliest convenience. Do not use scrapers or wire.
8. General:	Never install Metal Deck on only a portion of a walkway, as a change of conditions is more dangerous than overall poor conditions. Ensure thatthe Metal Deck is installed correctly as loose sheets can be dangerous. If using electric or pneumatic tools to install, ensure that appropriate safety glasses and ear protection are worn.
